Raj Ghat

Description

Raj Ghat is a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Firstly it was the name of a historical ghat of Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) on the banks of Yamuna river. Later the memorial area was called Raj Ghat. It is located in central Delhi at an approx. Distance of 5 km from Janpath. It is a black marble platform that marks the spot of Mahatma Gandhi's cremation, Antyesti (Antim Sanskar), a day after his assassination on 31 January 1948, The landscaping and planting of these memorials, was performed by Alick Percy-Lancaster, who was the last Englishman to hold the post of Superintendent of Horticultural Operations, Government of India.

History

Every section found here inspires people in the path of patriotism. Many dignitaries visit here and pay there homage to the Father and they plant trees in remembrance of him Like Queen Elizabeth II, Former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitman, Ho Chi Minh, Former US President Dwight Eisenhower these are few names who planted some trees here.

  • Daily, Except Monday Gandhi's Philosophy is projected here in picture, photos and sculpture from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. ◆ Film show in nearby museum between 9:30 am to 5:30 pm except on Thursday, Also on Sunday it is shown in Hindi at 4 pm and in English at 5 pm. ◆ All guest must remove there footwear before entering Raj ghat lawn. ◆ Opening time - 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. ◆ Entrance charge :- Free ◆ Camera fee :- Free

  • It's Scenic beauty with the peaceful environment along with the green trees, and beautiful lake attracts everyone. A black memorial stone with the inscription "Hey Ram,"i.e., the last word pronounced by the Mahatma Gandhi.
